Eighth Day Arts is a modern day salon offering film screenings, play and script readings, classes, seminars and more, with an emphasis on fun. Join us on our day-long grand opening with a book signing, live music and wine and food!

Published in 2012, The Love Boat Lady by Sheila Farrell Murray, chronicles the life of Jeraldine Saunders. A life-long resident of the Glendale area (and one-time reigning Mrs. Glendale), Saunders worked for many years as a fashion model for the likes of Oleg Cassini and Mr. Blackwell before she began lecturing on cruise ships on beauty, nutrition, and palmistry. She then became the first-ever female cruise director and began writing about her adventures at sea. The Love Boats, first published in 1974, is Saunders’ autobiography of her eight years as cruise director, which inspired the hit TV show The Love Boat. Saunders is also an astrology expert and writes a nationally syndicated horoscope column.

Murray and Saunders will be present to sign both of these fascinating books. Murray’s book contains a treasure trove of images of Saunders’ life from a young age on. Saunders will give palm readings, proceeds of which will go to local charities Pasadena Humane Society, SPCA and The Heart Institute at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

In the evening Michael Elliot, entertainment columnist and longtime contributor to The Hollywood Reporter, will do a Q&A with Saunders. Eclectic world music duo Janice and Will round out the night. You’ve never heard The Love Boat theme played quite this way before. Allll aboard!
